Project 2

ALEATORIC MUSIC / CHANCE OPERATIONS

1. Devise a chance method or operation for scoring/mapping an original aleatoric sound work.

2. Once a method is decided upon, create a visual map/score that will be used to direct the work. Be sure to save the score as a digital file. You will turn this in with the final piece.

3. Consider things like duration (of particular sounds), speed, pitch, silence, volume, signal processing (effects) etc…

4. The work should be between 2 (minimum) – 4 (max) minutes in length.

5. Build a sample library that will be used as the building blocks for the piece.

6. You may edit or process the sounds before you use them in the final score.

7. Apply your chance operations method to control the parameters of your choice in Adobe Audition. Export your final arrangement as a 16bit/44.1 kHz WAV file.

*Consider working thematically with your concept and/or sounds.
