Step 1.
Explore your environment and listen. Examine multiple spaces and locations. Try closing your eyes and focusing your attention on a space and its sonic details. REALLY LISTEN for a good 10-15 minutes. Some audible details will go unnoticed until you’ve tuned in to the sonic geography of a particular location.
Focus your attention on objects and structures that may normally go unnoticed. do they vibrate or make any sound?
Step 2.
Using one or multiple contact microphones, hydrophone, VLF receiver, and/or a shotgun mic create a sound work intended for a looping installation that amplifies the ambient and MicroSound worlds of an interior or exterior space. The work should follow a theme. Explore all areas of your location and focus on spaces or objects that would normally go unnoticed. exterior spaces connected to each structure count.
The work should be be at least 10 minutes and designed to loop.
Try using a EQ to “tune-in” to particular frequencies. For example cutting the high end and boosting the low-end etc.
All works will be installed in the installation room on the second floor of the dolphin building.
